Vietnam veterans will be honored at the April 9 luncheon meeting of American Legion Post 20, which is affiliated with the National Press Club. The meeting will take place at noon in the McClendon Room. The guest speaker will be Major General Edward J. Chrystal, Jr., director of the United States Vietnam War Commemoration. MG Chrystal will have pins for Vietnam veterans. We’re Just Wild About Harry One of the highlights of the National Press Club’s illustrious history is the day in February, 1945 when then-Vice President Harry Truman played the piano to entertain hundreds of servicemen gathered in the ballroom for the weekly World War II Canteen. Also attracted to the Canteen was the 20-year-old film starlet, Lauren Bacall, who had just exploded in popularity. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the creation of a naval force, and the upcoming meeting of American Legion Post 20 looks ahead to the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy. The luncheon meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 11 at noon in the McClendon Room at the National Press Club.
