The clarion call of the Jazz Age sounded in 1919 at the National Press Club and across the nation. Prohibition began in DC, Woman's Suffrage was won, and women - barred from the all-male National Press Club - formed their own Women’s National Press Club. The Club was even graced by Royalty in 1919 when Edward, the Prince of Wales, made an appearance. To commemorate all of these events, the History and Heritage team is joining forces with Events and Young Members to host a party in the Reliable Source on Oct. 23 from 6:30 to 9:30. A Salute to Mesfin Mekonen
The National Press Club History & Heritage team will salute Mesfin Mekonen, manager of the Reliable Source restaurant and bar, on Friday, Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Reliable Source. The event, open to members and their guests only, will recognize Mekonen's 50 years of service to the Club. Generations of members have been greeted by Mekonen as they arrive for lunch, dinner and even Taco Night. Entertainment will be provided by a Club favorite, The Greater U Street Jazz Collective.
