50th Anniversary of Polio Vaccine
Ben Bradlee, former executive editor of the Washington Post, and Anne Roosevelt, granddaughter of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, talked about the 50th anniversary of the Salk polio vaccine. They talked about personal and family battles with the disease as well as the impact of the vaccine on national public health. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.

Sister In The Band Of Brothers: Embedded In Iraq
Ms. Skiba talked about her book Sister In the Band Of Brothers: Embedded With the 101st Airborne In Iraq, published by University Press of Kansas. She traveled to Iraq as an embedded reporter with the 159th Aviation Brigade. As one of only 60 female reporters in Iraq, she detailed her experiences as the only female civilian among 2,300 soldiers. The author describes her interaction with the soldiers, from "media boot camp" to the end of her assignment. Ms. Skiba answered questions from members of the audience after her presentation.

The New European Constitution
Mark Hendrick, member of the British Parliament and its European Scrutiny Select Committee, will talk about the new European constitution. He first covered the history of the European Union, described its components, and talked about the Treaty of the Constitution of Europe which was signed by European heads of state in October 2004. He said the Treaty of the Constitution now awaits ratification by all 25 member countries of the European Union. He noted that there is some concern that the United Kingdom might reject the treaty. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions.

Actor and children's literacy advocate LeVar Burton will discuss "Children, Personal Responsibility and Everyday Miracles." He is currently national co-chair with First Lady Laura Bush of PBS's literacy campaign, "Share-A-Story" and national spokesman for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). Former Senator Sam Nunn, co-chairman of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, talked about national security and nuclear terrorism issues. He was a former Democratic senator from Georgia and Armed Services Committee chairman. Refugee Children
Angelina Jolie, Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency, spoke about the more than 5,000 children who arrive in the United States each year unaccompanied by adults. These children, many victims of human trafficking, persecution, and other abuse, were alone in their attempts to navigate the complex refugee and immigration court system. Ms. Jolie helped found a National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children to help them obtain lawyers free of charge for their legal proceedings.
