The Civil War in Depth
At a press conference to announce its publication, Mr. Zeller talked about his book The Civil War in Depth, Volume II, published by Chronicle Books with stereo viewer. His books present Civil War stereophotographs in the original 3-D. He talked about many of the photographs, showing blown-up examples, and answered questions from the audience. Following the press conference, photographer Rob Gibson demonstrated the technique for making wet plate prints using an 1863 camera and a subject dressed as a Confederate soldier.

Situation in Sudan
Representatives of the Sudanese government and members of the Coalition to Give Peace a Chance in Sudan disagreed with Secretary of State Powell's recent description of the situation in Darfur, Sudan as an example of genocide. They acknowledged a humanitarian crisis in the region, but disputed the idea that genocide was or had occurred. They also asserted that the government of Sudan did not participate in or condone any of the violence in the Darfur region. The panelists responded to audience questions.

Criminal Charges Against Ahmad Chalabi
Ms. Chalabi and Mr. Markham spoke with reporters about recent criminal charges filed against Ahmad Chalabi by the Iraqi Interim Government. Mr. Chalabi has been one of the most prominent Iraqi exiles that called for the ouster of Saddam Hussein. He is alleged to have participated in a plan to counterfeit Iraqi currency following his return to Iraq. Ms. Chalabi and Mr. Markham asserted that Mr. Chalabi is innocent of the charges leveled against him. They also responded to questions from members of the press.
