September 11 Investigation Campaign
On the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, family members of victims called for a new investigation into the attacks. Participants also talked about the release of a film 9/11: Press for Truth and recent research on potential government involvement in the attacks or negligence in efforts to find the truth about various aspects of the attacks. Following their remarks they answered questions from reporters.

Coverage of Hurricane Katrina
The National Press Club presented a forum with television news directors from New Orleans and Biloxi who talked about local TV station coverage of Hurricane Katrina. Accompanied by a highlights video, they explained how they prepared, how they coped and how they had kept themselves going in the six months since Hurricane Katrina swept through their communities. The event was co-hosted by the Radio and Television News Director Association.

Mental Health and Reconstruction of Iraq
A panel discussion was held on the effects of the conflicts in Iraq on mental health and substance use among Iraqis and U.S. soldiers. Experts discussed diagnosis and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder among civilians and soldiers. They also spoke about the neglect of the Saddam Hussein government in keeping statistics, as well as terrorist targeting of intellectuals and health care providers. Following their discussion, the panelists responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Professor Humphreys moderated the panel.

A panel of correspondents talked about the state of journalism and the use of confidential sources by reporters. Former New York Times correspondent Judy Miller, who recently spent 85 days in jail for refusing to identify a source in a special investigation into White House leaks of confidential information, also spoke about her experiences. A forum was held on "Assisted Dying: Crime or Compassion?" During the second panel, participants discussed whether states have sovereign authority over end-of-life issues, or if the Controlled Substances Act gave the U.S. Attorney General authority over the use of prescription drugs for such uses.
