National Press Club Journalism Awards virtual ceremony features President's Award to Osgood, Dec. 2

CBS radio and television icon Charles Osgood is expected to receive the National Press Club President's Award for lifetime achievement during the 47th annual NPC Journalism Awards virtual program tonight at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $10 for Club members and can be purchased online here.

All registered participants receive a $10 coupon to use on their next NPC Online Store purchase. Those details will be included after registration in the confirmation email. Members need to be signed in as a member on the website to receive the member discount.

Attendees will receive instructions on how to attend the virtual event after registration.

Known as the "poet laureate of CBS News," Osgood served as anchor of CBS Sunday Morning for 22 years, in addition to hosting his long-running radio commentary series The Osgood File.

Club President Michael Freedman cited Osgood's "wit, wisdom, and love of storytelling" in selecting him for the President's Award.

"Charlie is everyone's friend, a genuinely nice man with a warm sense of humor, and a remarkable ability to connect with people," said Freedman, who worked with Osgood at CBS News. "His career reflects a gentle side of journalism, one that engenders trust and respect."

This year’s awards ceremony event will be virtual in an effort to create the safest celebration possible for the honorees, members and guests. The awards recognize the finest coverage of politics, consumer news, foreign news and other specific areas of coverage.

Freedman plans to host the event. Each winner or a representative of the winning team is expected accept their award and highlights of the broadcast winning entries. Those who received honorable mentions are also to be recognized.

The recipients of 2020 Press Club scholarships are also slated to be announced.
