Human Rights in China and the Olympics

Mr. Kumar talked about what he sees as the deteriorating human rights situation in China, President Bush's visit to the Olympics opening ceremony, and U.S. policy in dealing with human rights abuses. Mr. Kumar says that despite Chinese promises, the human rights situation in the country has deteriorated since the Olympics were awarded to Beijing. Some of the abuses he points to are secret detention centers, labor camps (where more than a quarter million people are reportedly imprisoned), and executions of political prisoners. He responded to questions from reporters.
