Events in the Soviet Union

Ambassador Strauss was confirmed as U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union in August of this year. He was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1973 to 1976. He was named special trade representative under President Jimmy Carter, and served as a representative to the Middle East negotiations. Mr. Strauss discussed the unfolding events in the Soviet Union, including the Soviet economic infrastructure and future policy objectives. After his presentation, Ambassador Strauss answered questions.
