    "Who Killed Chea Vichea," a documentary on the murder of a Cambodian labor leader, was screened at the National Press Club on Aug. 4 as the last film in a summer documentary series. Directed by Bradley Cox and co-produced by Rich Garella and Jeffrey Saunders, the film follows the investigation into the murder of Chea Vichea, president of Cambodia’s free trade union and advocate for justice and the humane treatment of laborers in Cambodia's extensive production industry.

Directed by Lee Lawrence and Terry Nickelson, the film examines the lives and work of military chaplains and the church-state tensions at the heart of the chaplaincy. As part of the NPC Summer Documentary Series, a panel discussion with the film’s directors followed the screening.

    The NPC hosted a screening of “La Americana,” a film examining the case of a 9-year-old who, after suffering a life-threatening accident, must remain in Bolivia while her mother makes a dangerous and illegal journey to the United States, hoping to earn enough money to save her daughter’s life. A panel discussion with the producer/director and Suzanne Gamboa, AP reporter on immigration, followed. The discussion focused on freedom of the press and speech and a range of immigration issues, including remittances and the role of immigrants in the national economy.
