Wigle Whiskey Tasting celebrates year of 'good spirits' with Club President Ballou, Jan. 12

An event featuring a signature drink from his hometown of Pittsburgh will celebrate a year of 'good spirits' with outgoing Club President Jeffrey Ballou at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the Holeman Lounge.

The Wigle Whiskey Tasting will run until 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available online. They can be purchased for a $15 early-bird rate until midnight, Jan. 7. The regular price is $20.

The tasting will be held as Ballou enters the last week of his one-year Club presidency. It will feature whiskey tasting and spirited story-telling with the Wigle Whiskey director of sales.

The Pittsburgh-based distillery provided whiskey at Ballou's inaugural in January 2017. What better way to say thank you to Jeff for a great year of service than to welcome back a distillery from his hometown for one of his final events.

Kentucky has long claimed to be the epicenter of American Whiskey, but Pittsburgh's Wigle distillery says the beverage was born there, and throughout the 1700 and 1800s, Western Pennsylvania was the epicenter of American Whiskey production.

Wigle Whiskey is named after Philip Wigle, a pioneering Pennsylvania distiller who was sentenced to hang for his unsinkable love of whiskey and unwittingly helped spark the Whiskey Rebellion.

Today, Wigle Whiskey devotes an enormous amount of resources to innovation and making spirits the same way Wigle and his friends did when Pittsburgh was the center of American Whiskey -- with an alembic copper pot still and locally sourced organic ingredients.
