Wanted: The best political writing and analysis

The National Press Club, as part of its annual journalism contest, wants to see the best journalism examining politicians, their campaign strategies and their policies.

The top story in the category, which will be picked from coverage of the past year's political campaign season, will win the Lee Walczak Award for Political Analysis. The award recognizes the best in political writing, with an emphasis on the best analysis.

The award is named in memory of Lee Walczak, a Washington editor, bureau chief and White House correspondent who worked for Bloomberg News and Business Week magazine.

The competition has an online/print category and a prize of $750. The deadline for entering the contest is April 1, so pick your entries and mail them soon! For information about the contest, click here.

A team of Bloomberg reporters won the Lee Walczak Award last year with their work on Super PACs.

The journalism contest also includes awards for news photos, breaking news, online reporting, regional reporting on Washington, international coverage, consumer reporting and newsletter journalism. Included too is a group of awards for areas as diverse as the news industry, aerospace and the airline industry, problems facing the elderly and humor writing.
