Trauma surgeons voice support for ban on assault weapons at Newsmaker on Wednesday

Three trauma surgeons representing the Western Trauma Association will speak out about the damage they say military-style assault weapons can inflict on victims and explain why they support a total ban on the sale, transfer, manufacture and importation of such guns and high capacity magazines at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Panelists will include Dr. Ernest “Gene” Moore, editor of the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, a trauma surgeon in Denver who took care of patients from Columbine and the Aurora Theater mass shootings, and an avid hunter and gun owner; .Dr. Tom Scalea, a trauma surgeon at Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore who has worked at trauma centers in New York City and Baltimore and cared for multitudes of individuals who have suffered from firearm violence; .and Dr. Dennis Vane, the immediate past president of the Western Trauma Association and a pediatric surgeon.

This press conference is open to credentialed media and Club members free of charge, with advance registration required.
