Tonight: Preview Nicole Kidman/Russell Crowe film "Boy Erased"

In celebration of LGBT History Month, the Mattachine Society of Washington will present a sneak preview of the upcoming Nicole Kidman/Russell Crowe feature “Boy Erased” at a National Press Club Headliners event at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

The event, which includes a conversation with the film’s real-life subjects, Martha Conley and her son Garrard, will be held in the conference rooms. Tickets are $5 for Club members (members may purchase two tickets at this rate) and $10 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased online.

“Boy Erased,” set to be released in theaters by Focus Features on Nov. 2, is based on Garrard Conley’s memoir, and tells his story as the son of a Baptist pastor from small town Arkansas, forced into a conversion therapy program after being outed to his parents at age 19.

Martha and Garrard will share their inspiring story of survival and love following a second short first-person feature on their experience, and discuss their support for the Mattachine Society’s call for a nationwide ban on the controversial practice of conversion therapy.
