There’s still time to sign up for what promises to be a superb Spring Hoot of the National Press Club's Silver Owls. The May 1 event is open to all Press Club members.
The Mystery Guest alone would be worth the $35 price of admission, which includes a sit-down dinner, a talk by Dan Balz, political reporter and columnist for the Washington Post, and the induction of new Silver, Golden and Platinum Owls—those who have 25, 50 and 60 years respectively of continuous membership in the Club.
Reservations are required. Call 202-662-7501 or reserve online.
The Spring Hoot, which also plans to feature Gridiron pianist John Fluck, starts at 6 p.m. A cash bar will precede the sit-down dinner and program.
The new Silver Owls class includes four former presidents: Richard Sammon (1997), Tammy Lytle (2003), Jerry Zremski (2007) and Sylvia Smith (2008). They are among 31 new Silver Owls, five new Golden Owls and two Platinum Owls.
Balz plans to discuss the upcoming mid-term elections and the outlook for the 2016 presidential election. He has been a reporter for the Post since 1978, and has served as national editor, political editor and Washington correspondent. He is the author of Collision 2012: the Future of Election Politics in a Divided America and was the co-author, with the late Haynes Johnson of The Battle for America: the Story of an Extraordinary Election about the 2008 campaigns. He has appeared on television’s “Meet the Press” and “Washington Week.”
