A snippet of NPC history: Charlie Chaplin to George Clooney, Hollywood has visited the Club

"Film stars: Hooray for Hollywood. It's a long tradition for the National Press Club to host movie stars. Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford were among the first. Since then James Stewart, Ingrid Bergman, Robert Redford, Audrey Hepburn, Sean Connery, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Jane Fonda, Peter O'Toole, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks, Goldie Hawn, Burt Lancaster, Whoopi Goldberg and George Clooney have all spoken here. The National Press Club--where news is made in the nation's capital. Some of it star-studded."

This weekly snippet of National Press Club History was one of many put together by the late Art Wiese, who served as president in 1979. In honor of his passing last year, the Wire will run one of them each week.
