Showing Monday at the Club: Documentary Tells Story of WWII Unit that Duped Hitler’s Army With Illusions

The National Press Club will be previewing the full PBS documentary “The Ghost Army” on Monday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Rooms. A meet and greet with the film’s director, Rick Beyer, and his wife, Marilyn Rea Beyer will start at 6 p.m. There will be free refreshments and popcorn. The screening is free for Club members and $5 for nonmembers. Please register here.

War, deception and art come together in this documentary, the astonishing true story of American G.I.s -- many of whom would go on to have illustrious careers in art, design and fashion -- who tricked the enemy during World War II with rubber tanks, sound effects, and carefully crafted illusions. A remarkable story of a top-secret mission that was at once absurd, deadly and amazingly effective, “The Ghost Army” premieres on PBS on May 21.

Rick Beyer, the film’s director and Press Club member, will introduce the film and his wife, Marilyn Rea Beyer, who is also a Club member, who will lead the Q-and-A after the film with Beyer, Ghost Army veteran Jack Masey, and Roy Eichhorn, former Director of Research, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center.
