Senator plans to discuss pension plan problem, new committee at Headliners Luncheon

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, plans to discuss the nation’s pending pension crisis and the new, bipartisan congressional committee that was formed to find a solution at a National Press Club Headliners Luncheon on Thursday, April 12.

Lunch will be served in the Holeman Lounge at 12:30 p.m., with remarks by Brown beginning shortly afterwards, followed by a question-and-answer session. Tickets cost $25 for Club members (members may purchase two tickets at this rate) and $39 for all other non-member tickets. Click here to purchase tickets.

For all ticketing-related questions, please email [email protected]. Tickets must be paid for at the time of purchase. To submit a question for the speaker in advance, put SBROWN in the subject line and email to [email protected]. The deadline for submitting questions in advance is 10 a.m. on the day of the Luncheon.

The pension plans of 1.5 million workers and retirees nationwide are facing shortfalls, and are at risk of insolvency in the coming decade. Brown was named to serve as a co-chair, along with Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, of the Joint Select Committee on the Solvency of Multiemployer Pension Plans. The committee, which includes 16 members of Congress evenly divided among Democrats and Republicans, as well as representatives and senators, is tasked with finding a solution and reporting it to both the House and Senate by the end of November.
