Rapidly-growing disease threats to America and the global community take center stage at Sept. 10 NPC Luncheon featuring CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden

Tom Frieden, M.D., director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will update his audience about major health issues and challenges at National Press Club luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

In a talk entitled, “The Cough Heard ‘Round the World: CDC and Health Security,” Dr. Frieden will discuss new and deadly pathogens that can “hitch-hike rides and crisscross the globe in a day,” creating a growing global threat.

The CDC, a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is charged with protecting public health and safety via the control and prevention of disease, injury, and disability. It focuses on infectious disease, food-borne pathogens, environmental health, occupational safety, and health education and promotion. The CDC also researches and provides information on non-infectious diseases, such as diabetes and obesity.

The luncheon, held in the National Press Club ballroom, starts promptly at 12:30 p.m. Dr. Frieden’s remarks begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.
