Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe headlines April 19 luncheon

Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe will discuss challenges of meeting the evolving demands of the nation's postal system and the upcoming changes to Saturday delivery at a National Press Club luncheon on Friday, April 19.

Donahoe, the 73rd postmaster general and chief executive of the world’s largest postal organization, announced in February that the postal service would end Saturday mail delivery to cut costs.

Donahoe said the reductions would save $2 billion annually for the financially troubled postal service. The move conflicts with congressional mandates for six-day-a-week service, and legislation has been proposed in the House and Senate that would thwart the move.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $21 for Club members -- who may purchase two tickets at that rate -- and $35 for non-members.
