Popular superhero The Black Panther featured at Feb. 27 book event

On the heels of a record-breaking box office opening for Disney-Marvel’s Black Panther superhero film, award-winning journalist and author Jesse J. Holland will share his celebrated novel featuring the superhero, “Black Panther: Who is the Black Panther?” at a National Press Club Headliners Book Event on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m.

The event will feature a discussion with Holland, an audience question-and-answer session, and a book signing. Tickets are $5 for Club members and $10 for the general public. They can be purchased here.

In his book, Holland retells the classic origin of T’Challa, the original Black Panther who first appeared in American comic books published by Marvel Comics in 1966. He updates the story for the new century, chronicling The Black Panther’s battle with his father’s assassin, Klaw, and his army of mercenaries.

Holland was also commissioned by Disney Lucasfilm Press to chronicle the history of the Star Wars franchise’s newest black hero, “Finn,” in the young adult novel Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Finn’s Story. In addition to fiction, Holland is also an award-winning nonfiction author, recipient of the 2017 silver medal in U.S. History in the Independent Publisher Book Awards, and a Race & Ethnicity writer for the Associated Press.
