PhRMA executive to outline policy, budget threats to biopharmaceutical research, 10 am Sept. 20

John Castellani, president and chief executive of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), will highlight innovation as a key component of economic and health care policies at a Newsmaker at 10 a.m. Sept. 20.

The biopharmaceutical research industry has invested $500 billion in research and development since 2000 -- one reason the United States leads the world in R&D, according to Castellani. He will explore what must be done to sustain this investment in a time of uncertainty, when the country is facing major policy decisions that will shape the future of health care and the economy.
