Multimedia Classes in Early 2010; $30 for Members

A series of three classes on learning and improving multimedia uses will be offered in January and February for professional journalists and educators. The fee is $30 per class for NPC members.

Each course takes place entirely online. Participants will receive lessons and assignments from the instructor via email.

Each course is approximately 10 hours of work, including class time and independent work. Each class is three days, but
students will have 10 days to complete assignments. There is a limit of 30 students per class.

Participants will be able to complete the activities at their own pace, but assignments must be returned to the instructor by
the end of the 10-day period. In addition to the written lessons, participants will be able to contact the instructor via email, instant message and phone for further assistance.

Jan. 12-14, Getting into Multimedia 101

Instructor is Aaron Manfull, award-winning journalism adviser and chairman of the Journalism Education Association Digital
Media Committee

Manfull will guide you through 10 hours of training in how to start a multimedia website and how to update news, insert audio podcasts and videos and website add-ons. By the end of the class, you will have started a website. Fee: $30 for Press Club Members (does not include continuing education credits), $50 for teachers (includes continuing education credits)

Feb. 2-4, Getting into Multimedia 102

Also taught by Manfull, this is a class for those who have taken Getting Into Multimedia 101 or those who have already started a WordPress website. This class will help you expand your Web presence and will also help you structure and
manage your converged newsroom. This course will cover developing a beat system and organizing the staff. It will also show you ways to promote your Web site from a range of tools from social networks to e-newsletters. Fee: $30 for Press Club Members (does not include continuing education credits), $50 for teachers (includes continuing education credits)

Feb. 23-25 Getting into Multimedia 103

Instructor is Beth Shankle, Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library research librarian

This class will cover how to maximize your website, from engaging readers to selling ads on your site. This class will look at comments and reader-submitted content, Google AdWords, and other Web 2.0 tools including tools used for research, information display and connecting with your audience. Fee: $30 for Press Club Members (does not include continuing education credits), $50 for teachers (includes continuing education credits)
