How to write short: Word craft for fast times, Nov. 20

Roy Peter Clark, the Poynter Institute’s writing coach, will discuss the most effective techniques and strategies for making your work stand out at a workshop Nov. 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Zenger Room.

Clark, among the most influential writing teachers in America, turns his attention in his latest book to writing well in short forms. From posting a breaking news story on Facebook to summarizing entire news articles in 140-character tweets, reporters are being asked to do it all. In this workshop, participants will explore both the strategies and purposes of good short writing, paying special attention to the tools that work best for journalists in the digital age, where short writing is king.

Clark will be participating in the 36th annual Book Fair & Authors’ Night on Nov. 19 with his new book, “"How to Write Short: Word Craft for Fast Times."

Space is limited. Registration required. The workshop costs $5 for members. Click here to register.
