Horton, Gonzalez tapped as NPC 5K co-marshals, Sept. 7

Tony Horton, international fitness trainer and author, will once again serve as the celebrity race marshal for the 16th annual "Beat the Deadline" NPC 5K on Sept. 7.

Erika Gonzalez, local NBC4 reporter and anchor, will join Horton as co-race marshal of this year’s race, which benefits education and diversity in journalism.

The race will start at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of 14th and F streets. N.W. Horton will lead a pre-race warm-up with his P90X® Home Fitness program at 7:15 a.m.

The race will be followed by the NPC Health & Fitness Fair, pancake breakfast and awards ceremony. Cash prizes will be awarded for top finishers.

Media and group team entries are encouraged. Race entry is limited. Cost for early registration is $25 for Club members and $30 general admission until Aug 19. Click here for details and to register.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, at 6:30 p.m., Horton will hold an exclusive P90X® workout in the Club Ballroom. The cost is $5 for Club members and $10 for the public. Space is limited. Reservations can be made on the 5K website.

Proceeds from Club's Beat the Deadline 5K benefit the National Press Club Journalism Institute (NPCJI) and its ongoing mission to the future of journalism. NPCJI is committed to research and training for working journalists and scholarships that contribute to diversity in journalism. Since 2000, more than $700,000 has been raised to help students attend college and pursue a career in journalism.
