'Honor Flight' film, discussion on tap Nov. 27

The story of how a Wisconsin community pooled resources to fly its remaining World War II veterans to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., is the subject of a documentary film, “Honor Flight,” that will be screened at the National Press Club on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 6:30 p.m.

A brief panel discussion featuring the film’s director, Don Hayes, will follow the screening.

The event, in the Club’s Ballroom, is free and open to the public. To register, click here.

The film describes the town’s participation in the Honor Flight Network, a national organization that transports the war’s all-but-forgotten veterans, who are in their late 80s and early 90s, to see the memorial. More than 100,000 have made the trip so far. Often it is the first time the veterans have been thanked for their service, and is the last trip of their lives.

A cash bar, beginning at 6 p.m., will precede the screening. The film will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the panel discussion following until 8:30 p.m.
