Headliners Newsmaker features former ethics director Walter Shaub Friday

Walter M. Shaub, Jr., who served until earlier this month as the director of the Office of Government Ethics, will address a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker event on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Lisagor Room.

This Headliners Newsmaker event is open to credentialed media and Club members free of charge, with advance registration required. Please click here to register.

Shaub resigned July 19, short of completing a five-year term that began in January 2013, after demanding that the White House release all ethics waivers granted to presidential appointees. He also raised questions about President Donald Trump's refusal to divest his business holdings.

He called for the Office of Government Ethics to be granted greater authority to obtain information related to how and why recusals and waivers from existing ethics laws are granted to appointees.

Since leaving the government, Shaub has joined the Campaign Legal Center, an advocacy group supporting stronger government ethics.
