Headliners Newsmaker explores final year of WWI Centennial Commemoration, March 29

On Thursday, March 29, the National WWI Museum and Memorial, America’s official WWI museum and memorial as designated by Congress, will mark the final year of their centennial commemoration of WWI with a panel discussion on the lasting effects of the Great War at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker at 10 a.m. in the Bloomberg room.

World War I, referred to by historians as the defining event of the 20th Century and beyond, resulted in the deaths of more than 16 million soldiers and civilians by the war’s end in 1918, and left in its wake a path of political destruction and dramatic social upheaval that can still be seen and felt 100 years later.

Panelists are expected to include:

• Dr. Matthew Naylor, president and chief executive officer of the National World War I Museum and Memorial;


• Retired Air Force General Richard Myers, president of Kansas State University and former chairman of the joint chief of staff;


• Dr. Margaret MacMillan, best-selling author and professor of history at the University of Toronto; and


• Dr. Michael Neiberg, best-selling author and chair of War Studies in the Department of National Security and Strategy at the United States Army War College.
