Gerald R. Ford journalism awards to feature Congressman Upton & CNN's Gergen

Congressman Fred Upton, a Michigan Republican, and David Gergen, senior political analyst for CNN, will be the featured speakers at the 26th annual Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation journalism awards luncheon, hosted by the National Press Club on Monday, June 3.

The Ford Presidential Foundation will honor the winners of its annual awards for coverage of the presidency and national defense issues. Winners have yet to be named. President Ford, who had a long association with the National Press Club, established the journalism awards through his Foundation.

Congressman Upton holds former President Ford’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Representing Michigan’s sixth district, he also serves as chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce in the House. Prior to his election, Upton worked for President Ronald Reagan in the Office of Management and Budget.

In addition to providing political analysis for CNN, Gergen is a professor of public service and director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. He served as White House adviser to President Ford as well as U.S. presidents Nixon, Reagan and Clinton. He has written about his experiences in his New York Times best-seller, Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership, Nixon to Clinton.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Remarks begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.
