George Takei, Sulu on "Star Trek," to Address Club Luncheon Oct. 18

Actor and gay rights advocate George Takei will speak about LGBT issues at a National Press Club luncheon on Friday, Oct. 18.

Takei is best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu on "Star Trek," first as helmsman of the USS Enterprise and later as captain of the USS Excelsior. He has become an advocate for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people and and for the rights of Japanese-Americans.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 1 p.m. Ticket sales are open to Club members only for the first week. Members may buy tickets for two guests during this members-only window.

Club members who wish to attend the preluncheon reception must RSVP separately to [email protected] 48 hours before the event. Space may be limited. You must have a paid reservation to the luncheon to attend the VIP reception.
