Fourth Estate Award Gala tickets on sale; Marty Baron, Dean Baquet honored, Nov. 29

Tickets are still available for the 2018 Fourth Estate Award Gala honoring Washington Post executive editor Marty Baron and New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet.

The event will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, in the National Press Club ballroom. Baron and Baquet will accept the evening’s highest honor, the Fourth Estate Award, for their significant contributions to the field of journalism.

Club members can purchase up to two tickets at the discounted rate of $195 per person. Other tickets, including those for non-members, cost $300 each. Reservations are required and can be made online.

"As the editors of two of our most influential newspapers, Marty Baron and Dean Baquet have risen to the challenges of our times and emerged as thought-provoking and pathfinding leaders, steadfast in their commitment to excellence in journalism and to the defense of a free press,” said Club President Andrea Edney.

The gala will also recognize the 2018 Aubuchon Press Freedom Award recipients, people whose work and lives have advanced the cause of press freedom and transparency. In a year when journalists have been targeted by governments and forces that see freedom of information as a threat to their power, the Club is honoring two Reuters journalists who have been on the front lines of the struggle, Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo.

The Nov. 29 gala is a fundraiser for the National Press Club Journalism Institute, the Club's non-profit affiliate, which stands up for journalists, transparency and freedom of speech at home and abroad, provides professional development and training services to the journalism community and awards scholarships to aspiring journalists.
