Emily's List president to discuss 2018 elections at Headliners Luncheon, Sept. 18

With a record number of women running for public office this year, Stephanie Schriock, president of Emily's List, will appear at a National Press Club Headliners Luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 18. She will review the field of Democratic women who support abortion rights and explain why she believes this new wave of female candidates has the power to shift the balance of power in Washington.

Founded in 1985 by Ellen Malcolm, Emily's List raises money from donors for female Democrats who support abortion rights. The acronym stands for Early Money Is Like Yeast -- it makes the dough rise -- and is designed to help Democratic women who support abortion rights raise enough funds to be considered viable.

Schriock became president of Emily’s List in 2010. According to the Emily's List website, more than half of the $500 million that the organization has raised to support women candidates since its founding in 1985 was raised under her leadership.

Lunch will be served in the Club’s Ballroom at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $25 for Club members (members may purchase two tickets at this rate) and $39 for all other non-member tickets. Tickets can be purchased online.
