Current Club Podcast examines communication approaches of Trump, Putin

The now-famed Helsinki press conference with Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin captured the world's attention and reflected their approaches to political communication. It also illustrated the American media's struggle to cover U.S.-Russia relations during a turbulent time.

The communication styles of the two presidents -- and the U.S. news media coverage of their rhetoric and actions -- is the topic of the current episode of the National Press Club's podcast, Update-1.

In it, Sarah Oates, a professor at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism, discusses these issues as well as how traditional and online media can support or subvert democracy. She shares her thoughts with Broadcast/Podcast Committee member Viola Gienger
.

Update-1 is produced by Mike Hempen. The podcast can be heard on the Club website or on iTunes, Stitcher and TuneIn.
