Cochrans to share views on the state of journalism and j-schools at May 15 Legends dinner

Don't miss your opportunity to sign up for a limited access dinner conversation with John and Barbara Cochran as part of the National Press Club's "Legends of Broadcasting" series on Tuesday, May 15. Attendance is strictly limited to 30 guests.

John Cochran's 38-year network news career included lengthy stops at NBC News and ABC News. Most of his time was in Washington. At NBC, he rose to be chief diplomatic correspondent; he retired from ABC as senior Washington correspondent. His other titles included chief White House correspondent and chief Capitol Hill correspondent.

Barbara Cochran, is Curtis B. Hurley Chair in Public Affairs Reporting at the Missouri School of Journalism and director of the school's Washington program as well as the president of the board of the National Press Club Journalism Institute. She was managing editor of the Washington Star, vice president for news for National Public Radio, executive producer of NBC's "Meet the Press" and vice president and Washington bureau chief of CBS News.

Guests will hear insight on the world events the Cochrans covered, being the first woman to head a major broadcast bureau, the start of NPR's "Morning Edition," the state of journalism and journalism schools today.

This special event, organized by the Club's Broadcasting & Podcasting Team, will take place in the Winners' Room in the Club's Fourth Estate Restaurant, and will be strictly limited to 30 people. A cash bar reception will begin at 6 p.m. with introductions and dinner following at 6:45 p.m. Our guests of honor will make remarks and then open the floor to an informal Q&A session to end by 8:30 p.m.

Cost of the three-course dinner is $55 for Club members and members of the public. When registering here, attendees will select one of three entrée choices:

Chicken piccata, brown butter, chive potatoes & spring three-pea sauté;
Skewered grilled shrimp with tropical sesame basmati rice & lime coleslaw;
Zucchini “manicotti,” three cheese filling, Basil marinara sauce over pasta
