Tonight: Book Rap for Obama biography, 6:30 p.m.

The National Press Club plans to host Pulitzer-Prize winning historian David J. Garrow to discuss his new biography of former President Barack Obama at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at in the Club’s Murrow Room.

Tickets are $5 for Club members and $10 for the public. Tickets and copies of the book can be purchased online.

Books will also be available for purchase at the event. No outside books or memorabilia are permitted.

"Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama" explores the early life of Obama and the decades leading up to his winning the presidency.

Garrow’s prior books include "Liberty and Sexuality: The Right to Privacy and the Making of Roe v. Wade," a comprehensive history of the American reproductive rights struggle and "Bearing the Cross: Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference," which won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize in Biography and the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Book Award.

The Book Rap features a discussion with the author, an audience question-and-answer session, and a book signing.

Proceeds from this event benefit the non-profit affiliate of the Club, the National Press Club Journalism Institute, which offers innovative, practical training to journalists and communications professionals working in a rapidly-changing media environment.
