Club to hold 'JFK' film screening, discussion Oct. 30 near anniversary of his death

A prominent panel will discuss his life and presidency of John F. Kennedy and show clips of the upcoming movie, "JFK," at a National Press Club event Wednesday, Oct. 30, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of his death.

The panel will also examine how the press treated Kennedy and how the media’s treatment of presidents has changed throughout the years.

The film "JFK" premieres on the PBS series, "American Experience" on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 11-12 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time. (Check local listings.)

Panelists will be:

- Susan Bellows, producer and director of "JFK." She is an award-winning producer and writer with more than 20 years of experience in producing national programs for public television. She is the series producer for "American Experience." Previously, Bellows served as senior producer for the Peabody and Emmy-Award winning series, "Africans in America." Her other producing credits include films for "The Great Depression" and "America's War On Poverty."

- Sally Bedell Smith, a journalist and best-selling author whose books include "Grace and Power: The Private World of the Kennedy White House."

- Evan Thomas a journalist and best-selling author whose works include "Robert Kennedy: His Life." He currently teaches journalism at Princeton University.

Moderator of the panel will be Gil Klein, chair of the National Press Club's History and Heritage Committee.

"JFK" premieres on "American Experience" on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 11 and 12 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings).
