CDC Director Frieden to speak on 'the cough heard around the world' at Sept.10 NPC luncheon

Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, M.D., director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will update his audience about major health issues and challenges at a Tuesday, Sept. 10 National Press Club luncheon.

His remarks will focus on new and deadly pathogens that “can hitch-hike rides and crisscross the globe in a day.”

The CDC, a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since 1946, is charged with protecting public health and safety via the control and prevention of disease, injury, and disability. It focuses on infectious disease, food-borne pathogens, environmental health, occupational safety, and health and health promotion. The CDC also researches and provides information on non-infectious diseases, such as obesity and diabetes.

The luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $21 for Club members and one guest. Tickets are $35 for non-members.

Club members who wish to attend the pre-luncheon reception must RSVP separately to [email protected] 48 hours before the event. Space may be limited. You must have a paid reservation to the luncheon to attend the VIP reception.
