Rapidly-growing threats to America and the global community will take center stage at Sept. 10 Luncheon featuring CDC director Frieden

Tom Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will update his audience on major health issues and challenges at a Tuesday, Sept. 10 National Press Club luncheon.

In his talk, “The Cough Heard ‘Round the World: CDC and Health Security,” he will discuss new and deadly pathogens that can “hitch-hike rides and crisscross the globe in a day,” creating a growing global threat.

The CDC, a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is charged with protecting public health and safety via the control and prevention of disease, injury, and disability. It focuses on infectious disease, food-borne pathogens, environmental health, occupational safety and health education and promotion. The CDC also does research and provides information on non-infectious diseases, such as diabetes and obesity.

The luncheon in the National Press Club ballroom will start at 12:30 p.m. Frieden’s remarks will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $21 for Press Club members, and $21 for one guest. Cost for other tickets is $35 each. For reservation information, contact Pat Nelson at 202-662-7501 or here.
