Award-winning photographer to discuss Belarus photos at NPC on April 23

Bill Crandall, award-winning freelance photographer, will speak at a joint luncheon meeting of the Photography and International Correspondents Committees on Tuesday, April 23, at noon in the McClendon Room of the National Press Club.

Crandall will discuss his book, "The Waiting Room," the result of a nine-year project documenting life in post-Soviet Belarus. The book won 2nd place in the FotoWeekDC's 2012 international awards in photojournalism/print.

As an independent photographer with more than 20 years of photojournalism experience, Crandall has worked for major publications including The New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek and LeFigaro. In 2006, he organized and curated a major Chernobyl aftermath photo exhibit on the 20th anniversary of the disaster. The work was presented on Capitol Hill and at the United Nations. From 2000-2002, he was photo director for the former Balkan Times website.

Crandall, who has been an instructor, editor, and curator, currently teaches photography at the Maret School in Washington, D.C.

All Club members and their guests are welcome. No reservations are required for this event, which showcases the proud people of Belarus in search of their post-Soviet national identity, as seen through Crandall's photographs.
