Annual Book Fair Nov. 18 draws notable biographers, authors of books on history and journalism

The National Press Club is pleased to partner with Washington’s largest independent bookstore, Politics & Prose, on its 39h annual Book Fair & Authors’ Night, scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18.

One of the capital’s premier literary events, the annual fair draws the nation’s top pols, pundits and cultural icons to the historic National Press Club in downtown Washington. The event promises a robust crowd of book lovers, journalists and politicos seeking the latest titles across the genres -– from cookbooks and children’s stories to history, sports, memoirs and mysteries - and a chance to mingle with more than 90 of the nation’s best authors.

Admission to the 39th annual fair is $5 for Club members, $10 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased online.

For the biography and history lovers on your holiday shopping list, be sure to meet Ambassador Andrew Young, former aide to Martin Luther King Jr. and two-term mayor of Atlanta, who will be there with his new book, “Andrew Young and the Making of Modern Atlanta.”

Alexandra Zapruder, author of “Twenty-Six Seconds: A Personal History of the Zapruder Film,” also will be there, as well Lori Stokes, representing her father, the late Louis Stokes, with his autobiography, “The Gentleman from Ohio.”

Journalism history buffs will want to pick up “The Life of Kings: The Baltimore Sun and the Golden Age of the American Newspaper,” and meet co-editors Frederic B. Hill and Stephens Broening, with two of the contributing authors, National Press Club members Muriel Dobbin and Gilbert A. Lewthwaite.

And check out “The Huntress: The Adventures, Escapades, and Triumphs of Alicia Patterson: Aviatrix, Sportswoman, Journalist, Publisher,” by Alice and Michael Arlen. Margaret Engel, director of the Alicia Patterson Foundation, will represent the authors.

For a tax deductible contribution of $25, you can become a “Friend of the Book Fair.” You will be recognized in the program, and receive a free ticket to the event, a fundraiser for the National Press Club’s Journalism Institute, a 501 (c) (3) organization that defends press freedom worldwide, provides training, research and resources for news professionals, and scholarships for the next generation of journalists.

No outside books or memoralbilia permitted.
