Acting Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper has canceled his address to a National Press Club Headliners luncheon that was scheduled for Monday, June 24.
Esper, who had committed to speak as Secretary of the Army on the current state of the Army, was named on Tuesday by President Trump to lead the Department of Defense. Trump said he plans to nominate Esper to permanently fill the Pentagon spot.
Esper was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn in as the 23rd secretary of the Army on November 20, 2017. Prior to his confirmation, he worked for nearly a decade as vice president of government relations for Raytheon.
