Learn about the new government accounting standard at the NPC Journalism Institute’s next workshop, “Tracking Corporate Welfare in Your City and State: New Rule, New Tools” on April 3 at 9.30 a.m.

The new standard, GASB Statement No. 77 on Tax Abatement Disclosures, will begin generating brand new data this spring for taxpayers. Greg LeRoy, with Good Jobs First, will share the how to read this new data and Good Job First’s resource on company-specific tax break records – a dynamic database called Subsidy Tracker.

"American Legion: Since 1919, the year after World War I ended, the National Press Club has been home to American Legion Post 20, a veterans' organization with a rather illustrious pedigree. It originally had nicknames like "the Pershing Post" and the "Black Jack Post" in honor of a distinguished Club member, General John J. Pershing, who had commanded Allied forces in Europe in the Great War. The National Press Club -- where news (some of it patriotic) is made in the nation's capital."

Last day to sign up for Marvin Kalb's talk and movie screening of "Good Night and Good Luck"

Journalism luminary Marvin Kalb, the last correspondent personally hired at CBS News by Edward R. Murrow, will discuss threats to U.S. democracy in the Trump administration at a National Press Club Journalism Institute’s Press Freedom Committee talk on Thursday, March 30 at 6 p.m. in the Murrow Room.

The talk will be followed by a screening of the film “Good Night and Good Luck," which chronicles Murrow’s epic rebuke of Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian foreign ministers to discuss NATO, Russian influence at Newsmaker, March 28

The foreign ministers from the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will discuss their countries’ relations with the United States, as well as the importance of NATO to shared security, and other topics such as Russian influence, emerging threats, and the fight against terrorism at a National Press Club Newsmaker news conference 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 28, in the Murrow Room.
