Intro to Media Training, 2-4 pm Dec 4; Free for Members

NPC member Adam Konowe will conduct "Introduction to Media Training" from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.

The class is designed to empower public relations practitioners and spokespeople to build happy long-term relationships with the journalists who cover their organizations.

It will offer young professionals, students on others seeking to polish their skills a primer on where media is today and how news happens. Participants will also get tips on how to field inquiries from journalists, interview successfully, and maintain proper attribution and confidentiality.

NATO Civilian Rep to Afghanistan at Newsmaker, 6 pm Sept. 28

Mark Sedwill, NATO's senior civilian representative to Afghanistan, will speak at a Newsmaker press conference at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the Lisagor Room. Sedwill meets daily with Gen. David Petraeus in Kabul.

Mark Russell Entertains at Spring Hoot, 6:30 pm April 15; $35

Musical political satirist Mark Russell will perform at the Spring Hoot on Thursday, April 15.

The dinner coordinated by the Club’s Silver Owls (25 years or more members) will install newly eligible members of the Owls and trace the years since Russell was introduced to the Club in 1961 during the NPC presidency of the current Head Hoot, John Cosgrove.

Support the National Press Club's Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library with your ticket to "Stomp the Presses," a wine and spirits tasting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, in the ballroom.

A portion of the ticket sales and proceeds from wine and spirits sales at the event will be donated to the library. Attendees will sample more than 60 wines, beers and spirits from around the world.

Massey Energy CEO at July 22 Luncheon

Don L. Blankenship, the chairman and chief executive officer of Massey Energy Co., will speak at a Luncheon on Thursday, July 22, on the need to increase surface mining of coal to meet the nation’s energy requirements.

Massey Energy is the fourth-largest coal company in the United States. An explosion at the company’s Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, W.Va., on April 5 killed 29 miners, making it the deadliest coal mine explosion in the United States in 40 years.
