Blogging and RSS classes are Friday, Dec. 18, in the 13th floor Bloomberg Center for Electronic Journalism. Sign up for one or both

  • 9:30 to 10:30 am – Basics of Blogging
  • 11:00 to Noon – Build Your Own Newsstand (using RSS)

Each class is one hour. The fee is $10 per class for NPC members and $15 per class for non-members. Pay by credit card, check, or member account.

Digging through Campaign Disclosures, 9 a.m. Nov 9; Free for Members

Bob Biersack, coordinator of the Federal Election Commission's website improvement initiative, will explain the new formats for dowloading data files at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in the NPC Bloomberg Training Center

He will also demonstrate how to use the FEC's new Disclosure Data Blog, which was created to increase the exchange of information between the site’s managers and users.

Rutherford Wine Co. wines will be featured at a Fourth Estate Wine Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. Tickets are $70 for members and their guests, $93 for non-members.

The event includes a reception and five-course dinner with five featured wines.

The reception will kick off at 6:30pm with a Rutherford Ranch Sauvignon Blanc and passed hor d'eouvres. The dinner menu includes seared black sea bass with panzanella salad, porcini mushroom soup, pork tenderloin wrapped in proscuitto, and short ribs in a huckleberry sauce. Dessert is chocolate triumph.

  • Jila Baniyaghoob* of Iran, freelance reporter and editor-in-chief of the Web site Kanoon Zanan Irani (Iranian Women's Center)

The 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award winner is Amira Hass, a reporter and columnist for Ha'aretz Daily, a newspaper based in Tel Aviv.

Oct. 25, 1996: Former Communist Party Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev talks about the state of affairs in Russia following the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, resulting in part from his political and economic reforms (glasnost and perestroika).

Oct. 29, 1929: "Black Tuesday" -- the fourth (and most devastating) day the stock market crashed, leading to the Great Depression and new financial troubles for the National Press Club.

Pulitzer Prize Photos to be Presented at Noon, Oct. 28

A trilogy of Pulitzer Prize-winning photos taken by Ron Edmonds, recently retired AP senior White House photographer, will be presented to the NPC on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at noon. Edmonds will add his Pulitzer photos to the Club's growing collection when he speaks to the NPC Photography Committee in the Zenger Room. Edmonds' photos of the Reagan assassination attempt in 1981 won the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for spot news photography.

Veterans, Artists to Introduce Film on WWII African-American Soldiers 10 am Oct. 29

Veterans and producers and writers of a documentary chronicling the contributions of African American soldiers in World War II will preview the film at a Newsmaker at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Holeman Lounge.

"Choc'late Soldiers from the USA" is an untold story of African-American soldiers in wartime England, a place where many of them, for the first time, experience equality and what it was truly like to be an American. The film explores their journey, their mettle under combat and their exceptional courage.
