Reintroducing Rosa

*6:00 PM reception to take place at Square Bar - by invitation only (press are welcome to attend)

Location: Holeman Lounge

On May 12th, House Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn, author Danielle Lynn Mcguire and others will speak at Reintroducing Rosa, an extraordinary program that reexamines the civil rights movement and the pivotal roles of Rosa Parks and other women from all walks of life who fought for their right to bodily integrity and personal dignity in the face of pervasive sexual violence. Also in attendance will be Recy Taylor, a courageous American woman whose 1944 assault case was an early landmark in Rosa Parks' career as an anti-rape activist. Recently the Alabama State Legislature officially apologized to Taylor for failing to bring her attackers to justice.

Speakers will share their perspective on what the actions of inspiring women like Rosa Parks meant for the civil rights movement and second-wave feminism, as well as their impact on freedoms enjoyed today.

Space is limited. Members of the public may RSVP for this event by emailing reintroducingrosa@gmail.com. (For press RSVPs, please see contact below.)
