NPC Book Event

Journalist and historian Garrett Graff will share the findings of his latest work, Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government’s Secret Plan to Save Itself – While the Rest of Us Die, at a National Press Club Headliners Event at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22 in the club’s conference rooms.

Since the beginning of the Cold War, the U.S. government has been secretly planning for what would come after a nuclear attack on America. From hidden bunkers where generals and politicians would be evacuated to secret lists of “dangerous enemies” who would be arrested in the opening moments of war, Raven Rock provides the eye-opening truth about the multibillion-dollar Continuity of Government (COG) program. From the dawn of the nuclear era through the War on Terror, the COG determines the activities and processes that would allow the government to continue its essential operations following a nuclear attack—and even what totems of American culture should be saved.

This event will feature a discussion with the author, an audience question-and-answer session, and a book signing. Tickets are $5 for Press Club members and $10 for the public. Copies of the book can be purchased online at the same as tickets or at the event. No outside books or memorabilia are permitted. Proceeds from this event benefit the non-profit affiliate of the Club, the National Press Club Journalism Institute, which offers innovative, practical training to journalists and communications professionals working in a rapidly-changing media environment.
