Unite America to Hold News Conference to Announce
First-Ever National Slate of Independent Candidates
New Political Movement Renames from The Centrist Project and Releases a “Declaration of Independents” to Establish Shared Principles
Washington, DC - Feb. 26, 2018 – Unite America (formerly The Centrist Project), a national organization that recruits and supports independent candidates for state and federal office, will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 to announce the first-ever slate of five independent candidates for U.S. Senate and Governor across the country. The announcement includes candidates from Maryland, Maine, Alaska, Kansas and Missouri.
The organization will also release a statement of shared principles, the “Declaration of Independents,” that defines its common-sense approach to governing as the group builds a credible, organized national movement to challenge the unpopular two-party system.
The announcement comes at a time when a rapidly increasing groundswell of independent activism is gaining national momentum. Nationally, 44% of Americans identify as independent –– up five points over 2016 –– and 61% desire an alternative to the Democratic and Republican parties, according to Gallup.
