Hardly a month goes by where we don’t hear or read about major cutbacks in news operations around the country or yet another media outlet folding. Earlier this year, however, The Washington Post did the unusual. It announced plans to add more than 70 positions to its operations. A significant part of that expansion includes increasing its Health and Science coverage and adding a new section focused on health, wellness, and well-being to help meet the growing demand for fact-based, practical, and accessible health and wellness journalism.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, from noon to 1 p.m., the National Press Club’s Communicators Team will host a virtual Meet the Media discussion with The Washington Post to talk about the recent expansion, what’s ahead, issues and topics that drive daily coverage, and how professional communicators can best serve as credible resources.

Panelists include:

•    Krissah Thompson, managing editor for diversity and inclusion, who was instrumental in advocating for the expansion
•    Tara Parker-Pope, founding editor of the New York Times’ award-winning consumer site, Well, who was recruited to serve as editor of the new wellness section
•    Carolyn Johnson, science reporter, who has covered the business of health, the pharmaceutical industry, and the affordability of health care
•    Dan Diamond, national health policy reporter who writes about health policy and politics, with a focus on Covid-19 and the nation's response

NPC Communicators Team member Karen Addis, APR, president & CEO of Addis Communications, will moderate the event.

This online program is open to NPC members only, who can register online https://bit.ly/3rPjUkQ.  Note: NPC members must be logged into their member account on press.org to register.
