Description:
The National Press Club honors excellence in journalism each year and shines a spotlight on award-winning work at an annual dinner. In addition, the Board of Governors selects a U.S. and a foreign journalist to receive the John Aubuchon Freedom of the Press Award in recognition of their work to protect the public's right to know through the publishing or broadcasting of news. Monday night former USA Today reporter Toni Locy received the Aubuchon Award for her determination to protect her sources in the face of extreme personal risk. Locy was fined $5,000 a day by a district court judge for refusing to reveal her sources for stories she wrote aout the 2001 anthrax attacks.
