First Ladies and the Media

Women who covered or worked for former first ladies participated in a panel discussing media coverage of first ladies. Nan Robertson covered Jacqueline Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson, and Pat Nixon. Sheila Rabb Weidenfeld served as press secretary to Betty Ford. Also participating in the panel was Edith Mayo who served as curator of the Smithsonian Institution on first ladies. Barbara Matsuow moderated the panel. This program was jointly organized by the National Museum of American History and the National Press Club and is the eighth in a series of annual forums held to honor freedom of the press.
