Women Photographers from Iran and Arab World Featured at Photo Committee, Noon, Wednesday July 13

The next meeting of the National Press Club Photography Committee will be Wednesday, July 13, at noon in the McClendon Room. Kathryn Wat, chief curator at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, will be the guest speaker.

The museum is currently hosting an exhibition of photos by 12 contemporary women photographers with roots in Iran and the Arab world titled, "She Who Tells a Story." Wat will discuss how the portraits, cityscapes, and staged narratives of these artists reflect upon gender, war and the history of their home countries.

Often bold, frequently ironic, and always poetic, the photographs in "She Who Tells a Story" shift perspectives and open a cultural dialogue based on art.

In her role as chief curator, Wat oversees exhibition programming and the museum’s 5,000-object collection, both of which feature art created by women from the Renaissance to the present.

There is no charge for this meeting; no RSVP is necessary and guests are welcome. Lunch will be available from the Reliable Source buffet starting at noon. The presentation will begin at 12:30 and wrap up, following Q&A and discussion, around 1:30 pm.
